Why I’m Excited About the Turbo Babies Literacy Event
As a mom of three, I’ve learned that some of the sweetest moments with my kids happened when they were tiny and we’d curl up with a good book. My kids are now 17, 11, and 7 (how did that happen so fast?!), but when they were babies and toddlers, books like Goodnight Moon, Llama Llama Red Pajama, and Thomas the Train were on heavy rotation in our house. We must’ve read those stories a thousand times, but you know what? I wouldn’t trade a single one of those moments of joy, fun and laughter.
Looking back, I realize those times weren’t just cozy bedtime rituals. They were building blocks for my kids’ growth, helping them develop their brains, understand emotions, and feel safe and connected. As a daughter of an educator, I know the importance of starting early. Reading to my children when they were in the womb and especially those early years newborn to 3 years old.
That’s why I’m so excited about the Turbo Babies Racetrack Read-Alongs, fueled by JWB, happening on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 10:00–11:30 am. It’s the perfect way to celebrate National Read a Book Day if you’ve got little ones ages 0–3. I’m excited that the event is taking place at one of my favorite places to bring my kids from birth to now, the library!

Here’s where you can join the fun:
📍 Clearwater East Community Library – 2465 Drew St
📍 Palm Harbor Library – 2330 Nebraska Ave
📍 Largo Public Library – 120 Central Park Dr
📍 St. Pete West Community Library – 6700 8th Ave N
I will be at the St. Pete West Community Library along with other community leaders and we are so excited to interact with you and your little ones!
There will be interactive stories, special guests, book giveaways, and even prizes worth over $100. Honestly, what more could you ask for on a Saturday morning with babies & toddlers?
Why It Matters
When my kids were little, reading wasn’t just about the words on the page, it was about play, too. We’d act out the train chugging along or pretend to be Llama Llama calling for Mama. Those playful moments helped the stories come alive.
That’s exactly what makes Turbo Babies so special. It combines reading and movement, encouraging kids to wiggle, laugh, and imagine as they listen. It’s not just storytime, it’s an experience that families can share together.
The Benefits Go Beyond Storytime
Reading together may feel simple, but it’s powerful. It helps children:
- Boost Brain Growth – Early reading builds a strong foundation for learning.
- Support Emotional Health – Books give kids safe ways to explore feelings.
- Create Social Bonds – Shared reading strengthens family connections and helps kids interact with others.
- Encourage Lifelong Wellness – Early literacy is even linked to better health outcomes in adulthood.
Even though my kids are older now, I can see the ripple effects of those early years of story-time in who they are today. Each of my kids has their own library card and we still take our monthly trips to the library to check out books. Of course, the caliber of books they select have changed over the years but fostering their love of reading early truly made a difference.

Let’s Celebrate National Read a Book Day Together
So, if you’re in Pinellas County or the surrounding area, grab your little ones and head to one of the Turbo Babies Racetrack Read-Alongs. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate reading, connect as a family, and create those special memories you’ll treasure later.
Because at the end of the day, reading with our kids isn’t just about books, it’s about love, connection, and giving them tools that will last a lifetime.
